Default What is your CAT 3208 a NA or a Turbo

Here is an easy way to identify which Caterpillar 3208 is in your Wanderlodge, the horsepower ratings range all the way from 200hp to 300hp depending on the configuration of the engine. Some owners of the older FC Wanderlodges have also chosen to upgrade their powerplant to a newer more powerful turbocharged version of the CAT3208.

Here is a CAT 3208T turbo engine with a factory installed turbo that came from Caterpillar that way, it has the thermal blankets installed.

Here is a 300 horsepower Caterpillar 3207 TA that has a
intercooler or aftercooler or Charge-Air Cooler, that is located in front of the radiator. Notice the pipes going from the turbo up to the back of it and then returning back to the engine intake, on the far right is the fresh air intake that goes directly to the turbo.

I couldn't find any photos of a CAT 3208TAAC engine, so if you have one please add it to this thread and any other information about how to identify a CAT 3208 please add that too.

Mike knows his stuff from the radiator to the differential drain plug

Default 3208 ID

Thanks for all your efforts on this site, John. My 78 was repowered/upgraded by the original owner in 84 from a 3208NA to a 3208T. It appears to be a new Cat motor not a rebuild. The only ID I have on mine at the valve cover is the Engine Family info. I spoke with a tech from Cat (1-800-447-4989) and he was quite helpful. He explained that factory new engines usually did not have the serial number on the valve cover and that they are normally stamped on the right side of the block above the oil pan. I am waiting for daylight and dry to check this out. I will post a photo or 2 if you like with my results. I have not forgotten your guage merely awaiting availability. Regards, Glenn.
