George, with unibody cars there is little choice for the safety chains. I think the instructions say to ck the mounting bolts regularly.

On some of the newer cars, the whole front end has to come off to install the hitch. If you wanted to check the install and the bolts, it is a major job.
I have seen one that tore the whole front end plastic and what would be called a frame out of a newer Lexus toad. The owner said that it came loose just going down the road. The only difference here was that were able to drive the car, but it sure looked like a total.

I guess this is a good reason to check that the break-away switch works each time we hook up the toad.
