Hi Boots!
Just A warning,the signature police will be around,asking you to fill out your signature.
This is a requirement,to keep the spammers at bay!

Heres what I know in 2 minutes!
The belt just may be slipping on your pump,its a common problem.
Most FCs don't turn well when moving slow,its the nature of the beast.
That belt has to be very tight,use a belt gauge,its the only way to get it tight enough.

Ohh,welcome to the site,tell us more about your bird,send pics,we love pics!

Hi Boots,

After you get your signature fixed John will post a link on where to find it or from the main page scroll down and you will see something about signature.

Then scroll to the bottom of this page you will find 2 good treads on how to fix the power stearing try the repais first before changing the pump. I would just tighten the belt first then the lines and make sure there is plenty of fluid.

And welcome to our zoo it is a great place to find info.

Denny

Also, if belt is badly contaminated with oil, put a new belt on and readjust as necessary when you have a few hours on it. Do not expect to sit in the coach and turn the steering wheel unless the coach is rolling a litte bit. The single sheave (1 drive belt) configuration is somewhat marginal. 1987 thru 89 FCs came equipped with 2 drive belts and a more robust pump.

Welcome!
If you're going to change the belt, you may want to sand the glaze off of the pulley too, so the belt will bite better. I use 80 or 120 grit.

Welcome Boots ,

If you do not know the age of the belts or the condition, They can be visually inspected. But I would think about replacing all the belts and carry spares.

Hi Boots,

It's the SIGNATURE POLICE HERE Boy you guys are really on the ball today and I don't really mind you reminding people about their signature so I thought I'd do a change up on ya....Boots check out this thread Wanderlodge Owners Group > Mechanic's Corner > FC (Forward Control Unique Issues) > Caterpillar 3208 belts part number s and Adjustment proceeduresmake sure that you follow the adjustment procedures correctly this is very important.

I switched to the Gates Green Fleetrunner belts earlier this year and bought a belt tension gauge and if you use it properly it surprise you how tight you will have to get those belts before the gauge reads correctly, but it does make difference, after re-adjusting them after my first 3000 miles I could actually turn the steering wheel while the 'Bird was sitting still, never could do that before.

Now I have a duty to perform here;

Please add your permanent signature.

You need to add a permanent signature to your user profile, so that it will automatically be added at the end of all of your posts, this way we will know who we are replying to and what year and model of 'Bird or RV that you own, or if you are a Wannabe 'Bird owner, that way you help us, so that we can better help you.

This was one of the things that you were asked to do in the Wanderlodge Owners Group Rules and that you agreed to, when you became a member of this forum;

To find out how to add a permanent signature to your profile please read;

How To Post A New Topic Message Or A Reply To A Topic and Add Your Signature

Why do we want you to have a signature; Wanderlodge Owners Group > Frequently Asked Questions > User Related Issues What is the signature for?

So we are asking you again to please just add a signature in your profile with the requested information;

Your Name

Year & Model of 'Bird or WANNABE

Your Location

You can set your signature by choosing User CP at the upper left side of the forums page and then choose Edits Signature from the Settings & Options, then create your signature and if you want to you can add a signature photo, then scroll to the bottom and click on Preview Signature and if you are satisfied with the results, then scroll back down to the bottom and click on Save Signature.

Thanks,

Here is my hero, Don Knotts as the Nervous Man On The Street on the old Steve Allen Show on TV, but I just have shaky hands and not all over like he did

Some folks say that I could put a perfect bead down while welding, but I have never tried it
