Default Free AC

"My Navion" AKA John Stiles has a new AC installed.
John's old AC Dometic low profile Penguin 13,500???
no inside controls unit needs repair-not cooling.
Unit looks to be in good shape,no rust, and it's clean.
John was forced to cut a small piece of cover and base at rear
it will not affect operation. Unit has small crack at front of cover
also doesn't appear to be a problem.
Repair it or use it for spare parts unit is to good to go scrap metal.
I'll store and bring to RATS or ship to a good home.
AC is free just pay shipping or pick up at RATS.

Hi Ed.
I have sent an Email asking if they have room to bring the AC unit back from RATS. If they do, I would like to have it for parts. I'll let you know as soon as I find out. Thanks Don

How about a little info on the new A/C? My front one needs replaced and my middle one is working but has been blowing the breaker lately. My last trailer had a carrier with a remote type thermostat. It would be nice to have them on a thermostat.

I bought the new Penguin II. It is supposedly a more efficient model than the Penguin. Dometic claims 35 improvements over the original Penguin. I will say that it is even quieter than the Penguin. That impresses me as my Penguin AC's are the quietest I have ever heard. You can hardly hear them when sitting outside. I reused my original Penguin air handling box/control unit on the interior. The Penguin II does offer a much improved ceiling unit with air vents on the front, sides and back as well as a quick cool down direct air dump on the bottom. I can't speak to the ducted units or their controls.....
Oh yeah, the exterior shroud is much thicker and looks like it will hold up much longer before cracking or aging. The Penguin II can be identified by the new smooth aerodynamic shape and the grouping of ventilation holes on the sides and back.....

Ed/Don,

I forgot to mention, I believe I installed the optional heat strip in this AC. Off hand I don't recall if it was this one or the bedroom unit but I believe it was this one. If so, consider it a bonus for your money....
In addition, before totally considering gutting it for parts. It cools great. Its just low on freon indicating a slow leak. It freezes up after a few hours. Before then however it blows really cold. A local friend who does AC's on the side told me he could likely find the leak but at 10+ years old he recommended replacing it. ( I installed it and the bedroom one new about 10 - 11 years ago) As he said, 10+ years of bouncing down the road, one leak will likely be followed by another later.....

John.
Thanks for the info. I too will likley have to replace a unit soon. I was mostly thinking about the fan, but if someone has to have cool air in a hurry, your unit could be used as is. Don
