Mike, do it while you're young! When we were living on our boat, we met lots of families with kids. The kids were home schooled, but every kid we met living aboard were much more mature, self reliant and were above their "grade level" in education. I don't know about the RV lifestyle yet, but when you get along the U.S. East Coast and down into the Caribbean, there are a lot of families with kids living aboard. The kids have their own little community and love it. Selling out and taking off is not as hard as people think it is. You just have to decide that living the nomadic lifestyle is more important to you than what you are currently doing. Once that decision is made, the rest is easy. NOTE OF CAUTION: Everyone involved has to be on board with this decision...you, wife and kids. While in LaBelle FL, we met a guy with his wife, 4 kids and his MOTHER IN LAW plus a big dog all living on an S2 36 foot center cockpit sailboat. They had been living this way for several years and claimed to be happy....I thought the guy must be a masochist but hey, as long as they were happy, who am I to judge.

I sure with that we could have done this. We did homeschool our three kids, but didn't get to travel as much as we would have liked. Retirement is still a couple of years away, but there are days when I wish I could just turn in my keys and hit the road.

Research, discuss, and research some more. Start working on plans to do it. There are plenty of places along the way that you can abort the plan and keep on doing what you're doing if something comes up. As others have said, though, EVERYONE has to be completely on board with the idea or it won't work. That includes the kids.

Good luck.
