Default Norcold fridge,recall?

Guys,i have a member asking me what to do on his Norcold,he can't get on the forum for some reason,so i'm posting his question.

Randy
Tried to get on the forum but I am having computer problems. I need some info. I have received a 2 nd recall on my nor cold refrigerator , mainly the cooling unit and possibility of a fire. My local service center will not work on norcols because they had one Rv burn on their lot after they did the first recall work. He suggested I replace the nor cold with a house refrig.
Have any members had bad experience with norcold fridges. I am not sure what to do.
Thanks in advance.

One burned down RV on the lot after a fridge recall would be enough evidence for me, for sure.
It is like those freeze heaters. Off it and them in my opinion.

I've had both Norcold recalls done. The first was a simple temperature probe that would signal a shut down. The second recall installs a circuit board and from what I was told it is an improvement over the simple first fix. My guess is that the first fix would allow the fridge to start again after the over temp situation cooled down.....not good. The second recall system is a one shot deal. When it shuts things down the fridge cannot be restarted without a visit to your local RV repair guys for new parts.

Concur with Rob. I've had both recalls done as well. Fridge works great so that was a whole lot cheaper than replacing it.

Am I missing a recall?? I thought the first was the cooling unit which I had done on my 99. Second was an over temp switch which also involved pulling the refrig and putting a new "thicker" insulation around the stack. Is there an additional upgrade?

Many Thanks

Slim you just might be missing a recall. Call Norcold and tell a tech what has been done to date on your fridge. Get to a tech and not the call centre.

Slim,

I had the first two recalls done, same as you, before I traded the coach. Apparently the third recall is to further enhance the safety device installed in the second recall. If the unit trips after the third recall is performed it is not resettable and a major overhaul or replacement is then needed.
