Default PMMI Horn (33 song)

The horn on our coach didn't work when we got it and I just got around to attempting a fix. I found that it was only putting out a signal on the right channel; left channel was dead. I sent Joe Garner a message and he said he suspected the amplifier. The control board (pic 1) uses a LM383AT01 amp on each channel. I didn't have any luck with an LM383AT01, but I did find an LM383AT (pic 2) for less than $4 on ebay. Looking at the data sheets on them I couldn't find the difference. Desoldered the suspect amp (pic 3) and installed the replacement (pic 4). At that point the left channel began to put out, but at low volume. I desoldered one end of each capacitor associated with the amp and checked them with my Fluke. I found the 10 micro farad cap would only hold 19 nano farads (pic 5). Picked up a replacement at the local electronics store for $.65 and installed it (pic 6). Closed the controller back up and reinstalled (pic 10). It works!!!

Anybody can fix a horn, but how many of you have a workbench like that!

What's a battery I can turn a flashlight on and off and back on again, but when it finally goes out I have to go out and buy a new one and start the process all over again
