Default PTO Splines Worn and Making Noise

Hello All,
My, new to me (Sept. 2013), 2003 43 LXI has a very audible noise that I best describe has a loud growl or whine with either the dash air turned on or the fan override turned on, mostly at or above 1500 RPM's After some reading here and some other trouble shooting I believe that the noise is coming from the PTO and hydraulic pump that powers the engine cooling fan.

I removed the PTO and pump and found that the splines on the pump and PTO are pretty worn. I found the grease in the splines very dry and hard. It was actually a challenge to scrape it out of the splines with a screwdriver. That's how had it was. I recently greased the PTO but after looking at the already present hardened grease I don't think that there was any way that greasing now would have been able to displace the old hardened grease to do any good.

I am now in the process of trying to find a suitable replacement.

I bought the coach September 2013 in Frederick Colorado. It is the very lightly optioned/equipped 43 LXI that came from Texas and has been discussed, previous to my purchase, in this forum.

I have been working on it since September to correct and repair some things and we are looking forward to spending our first night in it.

Wasn't there a big long thread on changing that to a wet spline to help minimize future wear on that?

I'm looking to change over to the 1 inch, 15 tooth splines if possible. I'll likely stay with the greasable.

On second thought. Does anybody have any experience with the wet spline setup? Should I consider that instead?

I've read the 40 page PTO write up in the forum. There was, I believe, at least one wet PTO set up used. Is it working out O.K.?

I was on the fence considering wet spline or grease able. I think I'll go with wet spline, 1 inch, 15t spline. Here are the number that I have.

PTO:
Chealsea
267XDFJW-M5AF

Pump:
QCC
CPC-1049, CPC030-R-2-AF-BC

I know that I'll have to lengthen the supply line, filters, hydraulic fluid, etc.

Other than a tee in the trans pressure line do I need anything else?

I'll try local sources for the parts. Any recommendations?

Tim
You should call Randy. I converted my new 1" pump and PTO to a wet spline while at Randy's in Dec. Then we installed my wet spline, and then installed a wet spline on Randy's coach. There is a flow restricter that is required in a supply line. You can order the conversion kit that is a couple hundred dollars, or you can make one for $50.
I know Randy has a couple new pumps and a couple PTOs that are converted to wet spline.
