Default Insurance questions.

I just did what others have done and formed an LLC in Montana. I also just got the Montana plates for our toad and was about to do the same with the SP but have found out our Insurance carrier will not insure "LLC" owned vehicles. Our AAA agent says because of having an Oregon address and Montana Plates she doubts anyone will. We do have the LLC Montana address to use however and are wondering how others have insured their toads and coaches under an LLC. Since we are spending more and more time away from Oregon the permanent plates seemed the way to go. Thanks for any ideas on this.

I know lots of you like the Montana LLC.
But they can be a problem when selling the coach,if and when you sell it.
Some states require a complete copy of the LLC and the title when titling in that state,Va. is one of them. (just did this last week).
THis title issue delayed this sale for 2 weeks, before the buyer and Va. DMV were happy.
It could have soured the deal.

Check into your home states requirements before buying a coach with an LLC title.

Thanks for the responses. It is good to see the other side of the coin too before I plunge in.

Both Bllue Sky and USAA will insure MT LLC registered vehicles.

But for someone like biobug, who has already bought the BB, sales tax is a done deal. So, just license cost? Mine is a couple hundred a year. Hard to pay for setting up a LLC for that.

Maybe personal property tax?

I could see sales tax, if buying a multi 100k+ unit, then adds up fast.

We don't have sales tax in Oregon. The main advantage is after a Motorhome is over 10 years old the plates are permanent.
