Default Oily toad

Several of you are aware that my Bluebird (1984.5 PT36 - 6v92) has started blowing oil. Although there is no apparent oil leaking at idle or shut down. There are no visible drips or drops on the concrete pad on which it is parked.

The tailpipe is dry. There is little oil on the engine that is visible from the side hatch or the rear hatch. Oil consumption may be somewhat elevated, but now terribly so.

I believe the oil is coming from a lower location. My toad is pretty oily, mostly on the bumper and the hitch plate. I have some oil on the toad grille and a little on the hood, but mostly lower on the vehicle.

I’m soliciting opinions. Right now, I’m wondering if the slobber tubes (which go into a canister) could be related. Could the cannister be full of “slobber” and therefore blowing out the rear. I don’t know enough about it to venture an opinion and I’m hoping for some educated opinions.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is there a catch can at the end of the slobber tube? If there is is might be full and need dumping. If it doesn't have one, it may be easy to add one.

Stick, factory catch can crosses under the oil pan of the engine. They can overflow if not emptied.

There are valves where the slobber tubes come out of the engine that allow the oil to be drained from the air boxes while at idle. The valve should close once the engine goes above idle if they are operating properly, if not they could blow oil out of the slobber tubes or box while above idle. I cleaned both of mine with brake clean when i installed my catch can.

Is the oil pressure switch part of the ignition circuit nice and dry?

Just a thought, but when my high pressure hydraulic filter behind the drivers tag tire was leaking I had oil on the back of the coach and towed. Is that oil level going down?

I did have to add 1/2 gallon but I’m told that’s not unusual for a 6v.

Sounds like I need to check a few things. Especially the slobber tube reservoir.

Thanks, Jeff. I have verified that my reservoir has not been emptied since I bought the bus. Good place to start.
