Thumbs down Flying J has stopped fuel dsicounts AGAIN

Just filled up at my usual Friday pm FJ. Last week got the 3 cent discount per gallon. This week, nothing. The manager tells me they've stopped ALL the discounts.

What day did you fill up? We filled up Friday at Exit 2 I-75 Georgia and got the 3 cent discount.

Flying J was bought out by Pilot. When that happened the Flying J in our area raised prices up about 15 cents a gallon and no discounts. It took most all the other stations in the area about a week to catch on to what happened, then they raised there prices to match. So much for any competition. There is one station that has stayed about 10 cents cheaper, they get my business now. I will avoid Flying J if I can.

It has been forever since I have bought diesel at Flying J, Pilot because I can buy it cheaper at local stations. I filled up yesterday locally for $3.03 and Flying J was about $3.15.

Richard,

You were probably hit up with the Flying J - Gator surcharge.

I filled up Friday night in eastern Oklahoma. After the merger, they'd brought back the RV discount and actually upped it from 1 cent per gallon to 3 cents per gallon, but added a 300 gallon per month limit. This made them the least expensive place to fuel in that area. They also had the nicest facilities in that area. Now that the discounts are gone, they are right where everybody else is. The facilities are being upgraded further, though. In OKC, they are typically a penny or 2 less than the Pilot across the corner and have better RV facilities. Just letting people know. I used them because of the fuel turnover, you were pretty sure of getting fresh clean fuel. Secondly, if they've stopped all discounts, freight costs are going to go up. Everybody pays there.

Just my thoughts but since I don't consider myself the best driver in the world I appreciate the spaciousness of Flying J and for the most part their layout. Realizing how expensive a minor ding on one of these coaches can be and how sometimes the parts could be unavailable I've decided to buy my fuel where I have the best chance of not sideswiping something. If that means Flying J at a ten cent difference then so be. For me the $10 to $15 difference is cheap insurance.

Very valid point, Rob. I've done the same. You start to head for a place and find the place has a parking lot fit for a Yugo, you just drive to the next one.

Found good deals on fuel @ the native American stops. I go out of my way to use them. For instance, the fuel stop east of Pendleton OR on I-84, you pump YOUR OWN FUEL. WOW. And the RV park is stellar too, didn't try the casino.
