Default 8V92 Tachometer Needle Wanders

Howdy.
On my 1993 WLWB, the tach needle will wander while I am driving the coach. The speedometer works, the cruise control works, the engine speed is not changing. It acts like a loose connection to the sending unit or possible a bad sending unit. Question is: where is the tachometer sending unit located? I want to check it.

TIA,
Jack

I don't think you have a tach sensor like the non-electronic engines.
I suspect you have a crank or maybe even a cam position sensor, thats tied into your D-Deck engine system.

I have no idea where it would be.

Jack-
Did you ever find the cause? My '93 does the same thing.

My 1983 does the same, too. It regularly flutters off from 1800 to 2500 rpm. Spends about 1/2 to 2/3 the time at the right rpm. Given your issues and common ground with mine, I'd suspect the tach unit itself.

I would believe the computer would generate the tach signal.

My speedo used to just die after a few hours of driving. I found a loose connector, which just needed to be tightened down. That nut was on the back of the speedo unit. Since, its been 100% reliable.

I like North Hollywood Speedometers. They have a great reputation for repair. Stephen has some new ones too. Might be worth reaching out to him?

Thanks Doug. The Tach issue sounds identical (no problem with the speedo yet). I take it when you fixed the speedo issue no similar condition existed with the tach? A loose connector would probably be too easy.

You are correct. I did try to find a similar connection issue with the tach. No such luck. However, the symptoms were different.

Stephen- Based on your experience is it the gauge or the signal it's getting?
