All in all we were very lucky, and we are back in the house and living the dream.
Most roofs for 100 miles around are still a blue tarp.

Dana, the insurance companys have been here writing checks for several weeks,or longer.
Its not the insurance companys slowing down the roofs, its the lack of roofers.
When every roof in several hundred miles needs work, and your relying on a roofer to come fix it,your in deep trouble.

Then we get roofers coming in to the state to work, they need a license to work, and can't get the jobs.
Unless they use a licensed roofer for the state they are in.
Its a bad deal if your dependent on tradesman to fix your roof.

Some young guys stopped here looking for tree work, they were roofers from Ohio, and could not get roofing work,so they were doing tree work, sleeping in the truck at walmart, hoping to make enough money to get a motel room every 3 nights.

Yes,roofing companys would hire them, but at common labor rates, rates for Ga.,not Ohio rates.
(which may or may not be different)

Of course they came down hoping to make huge money, turns out they should have stayed home.
In Fl. the other day i noticed signs along the roads, warning workers that they had to be licensed in that town for roofing work.

I was very lucky that the people here came down and helped with the major wood work repairs and cleanup.
I was also lucky to have equipment on had to make that work easier (not easy).

A local women told Carol yesterday she was on the list to get her roof repaired, she has the blue tarp covering a huge hole.
The roofer told her she was a year out on getting repairs.
It rained all week, and now its cold, she said she has lizards all in her house, and the lizards are there to eat the bugs...

The courthouse here has a huge hole in the roof, yesterday was sunny so they had a crew up there rebuilding 100 yo trusses and decking, everybody has a story and everybody needs help.

Thank you again for coming to help US!

Randy, I'm just glad we were able to help. My vacation time coincided with the storm clean-up and WOG. Just sorry I couldn't come back after the rally but I had to return to this lovely thing called ....work.

I think a lot of the issues we have down here are people with very limited incomes and can't afford to fix their roof. Insurance, if they have it, will only pay so much and it is never enough to do the roof. And it's because of the insurance, that the homeowner has to have a licensed roofer do the work or they (insurance) won't insure the home. They also need to be licensed to avoid price gouging and rip off's. Oh it still happens, but it isn't as bad.

Just glad you are all taken care of.

We're waiting for the roofers. Hopefully we'll get a new roof within a month. Ceilings are down, some walls are out, the HVAC inside unit is waiting re-install, carpets are torn out, and we're hopefully getting the rebuild within a month or so. Until then, we're full-timing in the front yard.

At least the special guest dog went back home.
