Default Copper to Pex conversion

I'm fixing up some plumbing issues in my bird and found a pretty sizable hole in one of the main 5/8" pipes...

According to my schematics, this pipe runs from the water inlet to the water pump under the sink. I'm looking at replacing this copper tubing with Pex. However in looking online. I am trying to source this locally and only seeing 1/2" or 3/4". Should I upsize or downsize?

Thanks

5/8 copper is 1/2 copper in the plumbing world. copper goes by inside dia. But HVAC goes by o.d. Long story

I replaced all the domestic water copper lines in my FC with 1/2" PEX. Works great.

Correct Don;
Better stated HVAC uses OD and "Plumbing" uses ID.

You can find copper in both 1/2" ID and OD. Stick with Plumbing sizes, you'll be happy you did when you look for fittings.

I bet the 1/2" will be better when it comes to getting hot water to come up. Not as much waste.

Michael This is the problem when I train plumber apprentices When buying copper. we buy by the 10 or 20 ft length. When you buy copper by the roll or soft as we would call it 60 and 100 ft coils plumbers go by o.d. That's what I mean by a long story. To go on how about steel and brass pipe I.d o.d. ?? And the new stuff PEX 3/8 1/2 5/8 3/4 wow To much info. Just for fun Thanks Don

I used reiforced tubing, barb fittings, and double hose clamps when I replaced the water inlet on our Bird. That allowed me to assemble everything on the bench (except the inside connection) because the plastic inlet won't stand up to much wrenching. I like PEX around the house and prefer the band clamps that don't require dies so one crimper fits all. Just my .02

So I'm in the midst of all this conversion to pex. I'm done with Under the bed to kitchen and now I'm working on kitchen to bathroom. However I can't seem to get the old copper from between the kitchen and bathroom to budge. I've tried yanking, pulling, pushing, and to no avail. Is the something behind the kitchen gas furnace or the shower that would be causing me to get stuck. I've done the flashlight/mirror looking down the path way but I see nothing that has shown me what I could be snagging on. Any advice on how to pull the copper from between the kitchen and bathroom. These are the 2 cold water pipes and 1 hot water pipe all bound together.

Thanks

Cary try working on one only,start turning it around or back and forth get it moving then try sliding it out. If there are any offsets it will be very hard to pull out. Good Luck
