Default tramission 1991 PT

I am getting my 1991 Wanderlodge ready for the summer and when I put the tranmission in reverse I got nothing ,I checked the fluid ,level was good and the oil smelled ok,(not burnt) the tramission ran well when I put it away in Nov. and I ran it on warm days in the winter but did not engange the tranmission on these day. I hit the check tranmission switch and no lite came up ,it did nothing. when I put it in gear the red lite at the R is lite and glows steadly. If I put in forward it goes into gear ,one thing I noticed when I took it to the dealer was the tranmission was not shifting down in to 3rd or 2nd when I left the stop sign has any one have any suggetions of the problem or a fix. Also my step does not go in and what do I need to check. David Heibult 1991 WLWB 40

fisrt thing i would check on the step is the mercury switchs under the step, theres two,and if you look under the coach from the front you can see them,
standard warning here! be very careful working under the coach, and be careful working on the step,it can hurt you!!

on the transmission,i would check the grounds first(always check the grounds!)
on the 93s theres a ground wire on the passenger side of the tranny,up on the ide of the tranny, and its hard to get to. i would just add a new ground cable from the tranny to the ground buss bar near the batterys.
keep us advised.
