Default Favicon??

My smarter than me son was setting my computer up with google chrome and google plus. He said that WOG needs it's own favicon? (not like can't survive without it, but as in would be nice!) He showed me other ones. The best way I could explain it is that it's that little picture/icon/avitar that shows up for an app or program. Would this be hard to do?

If I am not mistaken, there already is one. Should show up when you are on the front page. Should also be there in your bookmarks - if you bookmark the front page. It is....drum roll.....a bird. Does not show once you enter deeper such as within the vBulletin forum pages themselves.

Thanks Terry, but I'm going to have to defer until my son comes over again. I tried what you said but am still not seeing it. No big deal, mostly curious.

You are correct, WOG does not have a favicon. In the browser tab here I see a dotted square only. The most direct check is this way:

http://www.wanderlodgeownersgroup.com/favicon.ico

Which is "file not found."

Here are some examples that do work:
http://www.google.com/favicon.ico
http://www.yahoo.com/favicon.ico
or (shameless plug) my petsupply site:
http://www.arcatapet.com/favicon.ico

In order to have one here, someone needs to produce a 16x16 icon in .ico format and put it in the root directory. Nothing else is needed.

We live in a graphical world. I have icons all over my desktop, for example, and similarly my toolbar on my browser is full of icons. Reduces the amount of text. I have 30 links in my favorites bar, and 6 of them lack icons. Sorry to say that I realized BBirdMaps was one of those, something I'm working on fixing as we speak.

There are lots of conventions in the use of the internet, and favicons is one of them, albeit a minor one.

Gimme a sec... (fyi: in a past life, starting when Netscape was in Beta I designed websites, did it for almost 15 years).. ok 2 slightly different versions in a zip attachment. Just of the Bird itself. Would've uploaded here as images but the the forum won't accept a ico file as a valid image.

Either one will need to be changed to be named EXACTLY "favicon.ico" and put in the root directory or it won't work. Also not all web broswers will display it immediately. They'll cache them sometimes.

Maybe not as an attachment (didn't try), but it does accept them as an image if they are somewhere that can be linked - the one I show above is in .ico format.
