Default Bus Grease Monkey

Anyone following his latest Wanderlodge job. He started doing the wheel seals and found almost all the brake drums cracked. Bad juju. Was this ever a known issue? Caught him by surprise. The owner is a rancher (I think). Has a dream shop. The coach is super nice. It looks to have had some bad mechanics along the way. Front wheel bearings got trashed. Couldn’t have been put on right.

I have been doing some research after I noticed some brake heating after flywheelers.. I think the old auto slack adjusters are suspect. I have already talked to my parts guy and I am going to replace them with new style slack adjusters. Plus on the drive it’s a pain to remove the pawl to back off the slack adjuster. The modern ones with the pull out tab will make things much easier. Will update when I do this project. I am going to be doing rear air bags and will also do the rear brakes while I am at it.

Like to see that. I'm pretty sure my 03 LX has the old style too.

If you have the drums off you need to just replace the slacks. They are like $30/ea or something. My fronts were hosed and I took them apart. I'm pretty sure they were manhandled in the past and that's what stripped the pawl's ratchet. Mine were simply loose, very loose.

I agree replace them all . I had one lock up on me 2 years back and if not for a trucker who noticed smoke from the rear I would have lost the coach . Crawled over to Marks and had his mobile mechanic replace them all .

So I’m looking at them. I’ll have to pull one off to size it up. Them and all new seals. Not having any history on the coach, I’m sure it’s a good thing to do. Got 5 months before the cross country trip, so it’s on the list. I love the WOG.

That $10k you are supposed to spend when you buy one of these things, well this is what it's for.
