Caterpillar 3208 Solutions This sub-forum is hosted by Mike Hohnstein who has been at this kind of thing for 50+ years now, guess I'm addicted. The saga has been all about progressively larger shop space since then. Honestly, never wanted to get into the CAT 3208's that were originally considered to be a throwaway engine but that's all that works in a FC in my world. Same thing with my Ford toter, that came with a NA, too much effort to hang in a 6, so been at it with the CAT V-8 for 20 years now. In reality you can get excellent life out of a CAT 3208 if it's built correctly. Post your questions about the CAT 3208 engines here and Mike will try to help you out.

Default 1990 sp 36 troubles

Yesterday I purchased a 1990 Bluebird Wanderlodge sp36. I have owned an older 78 Wanderlodge for many years so I am knowledgeable with the old Birds. Yesterday on my way home with the 1990 Bird it just quit running, after a 3 hr drive thru rush hour Atlanta traffic and it ran great up until this point, but when I was exiting the Tunnel Hill GA exit I came to a stop and the Bird just quit running and the check engine dash light came on briefly. I am still broke down on the side of the road so I have started troubleshooting before I call a wrecker and I want to try to change the fuel filter first but I cant seem to locate it. I looked under the inside bed and in both side and back compartments. So my question is where and how do I get to the fuel filter to change it? I am starting to miss my old 78 Bluebird faithful and the fuel filter was on top and easy to get to! Any help or advise is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Not sure on the SP, I would check at the propane tank area for the racor filter then the fuel filter may be on drivers side engine down under by the oil filters. If the filter gets plugged it will lose power slowly. If shut off quickly check the fuel solenoid for power up by injection pump

The Racor is located in the Propane compartment. 1st compartment toward the front from the entry door. It is mounted on the rear side of this compartment. The secondary filter is on the curb side of the engine and I believe it is the most further forward of the filters. Lift your rear hatch and see if you have the Primer button. It will be mount close to the rear start button. Hope this helps.

Well I have to say I did not think to look in the propane bay I feel like I checked everywhere else! I will check soon, I was lucky that it made it 20 minutes from my house so I am home for a shower and researching a bit online before I go back to the bus. I am unfamiliar with a Racor filter but I can figure it out is it just a pre filter for the fuel filter? Is it something I can clean or replace filter from Autozone fust so happens to be one 5 miles down the road. Thank YOU!

I don't think you will find a Racor filter at Autozone. Your best bet would be a NAPA or some heavy duty truck shop or parts shop.

I have found that the only store that I can find the Racor filter in stock is at Advance Auto Parts. Fuel filter on my SP engine is on the passenger side right in front of the oil filters.

Default Racor Size

Get the shorter of the two Racor filters. I had purchased two by the catalog transfer part number at NAPA and got the longer version. Thank goodness Rick the SP Baron had a spare. Gave my two to a PT 40 man.

Get the racors with the o-ring and gasket.

Also check for fuel in the valley, indicative of a throttle rod seal leak.

Default raycor 1000

Hopefully it has the larger 1000 series Raycor those are available at most truck stop service centers and Napa. If it is the 500 series like my 83pt used to have; no one stocks those as I discovered the hard way. They come in 2, 10, and 30 micron sizes. 30 micron is the desired filter for use as a primary filter; they are the red labeled ones. If its a 500 I had a truck stop shop cut down a 1000 series and glue the end back on. There isn't any paperwork on that 3am repair. I made it about 600 miles before it plugged with algae again. If it has brown "rust like" material in it that is algae. Nasty stuff that needs to be treated with diesel algaecide like Sta-bil Diesel Biocide. I fought algae in my combine this fall. Two treatments with that at fill up solved all my troubles.
