Try this...

- Left 4 or more turns and stop on 1st combination number.
- Right two times and third time stop on the 2nd number.
- Left one time and 2nd time stop on the 3rd number.
Right till dial stops, turn hard, about half a turn.
Lift up.

I fixed the safe in Bobbie Martin's SP36, locked it to demonstrate and could not open it again after having successfully done so, hopefully he reads Curt's instructions, I think I know what I was doing wrong.

Default Safe

When we bought our 1980 FC the safe was locked and no one knew the combination. I did contact the first owner's son and he told me his parents had forgotten the combination. He also told me they had "lost" $8,000" in cash they had hidden but could not remember where it was. I contacted a safe locksmith and he opened the safe by drilling a hole in the front and using a probe to unlock the safe and reset the combination. It was empty. It worked fine after that. Years later I had to replace the toolbox that was in the outside storage and under the rubber mat in the box was the combination. I never did find the lost cash.
