Default rerouting M380 generator exhaust

One of the things I really like about my M380 is having a front slideout. But having the generator exhaust outlet under the front slideout prevent us from using our roof level exhaust stack that is required in some areas. One more thing to tweek…..

After a little CAD work we had drawings for a local muffler shop to make an extension tube with a 90 degree bend that would slip over the existing generator exhaust pipe. Another local supplier laser cut and formed a stainless steel support bracket. Combine that with a pair of machined nylon standoff sleeves to protect the paint and some longer screws results in a pretty good looking solution that allows us the use the vertical exhaust stack doesn't interfer with the slideout or its awning. I thought I’d share this design with the group.

Dan,

They is a nice job. I really like your design. I have been wanting to do the same thing. Why put the exhaust for the generator and hurricane under the slide????

Default M380 generator exhaust

Lloyd, I've also wondered why anyone would intentionally put the generator and hurricane exhausts under the slideout. My guess, the designers were stuck between a good technical solution and one that was within the budget. Looks like the budget won that battle.

I don't like the idea of someone sleeping a couple of feet above the generator exhaust. I know CO is heavy and should not rise to be a problem in the coach, plus we have the CO monitor but...

My buddy's SOB has a sticker on a driver side salon window which says to keep it closed when the genny or engine is running

As a guy that rarely boondocks I wonder if I might ask a rather foolish question. What type of venues require a roof level exhaust for the generator? If that is true is one required for the Aqua-Hot also?

Thanks,

Brad,

My experience using the generator exhaust stack was first used at a Pre-Rally before the Rally in The Valley, where the 'Bird were parked close together, it keeps the exhaust fumes from being aimed directly at the coach next to you.

We sometimes encourage their use at Maxton, depending on where and how we arrange the parking for the 'Birds. Here is a link to a file of different generator exhaust stacks for 'Birds.

Hey John,

You're going to have to do a little better on the pictures. I can barely make out my 'bird on the very right hand side of the picture....

Brad,

I was parked this past week in close quarters with a bunch (several hundred) of other coaches. Fortunately the section where I was parked had electric, so nobody ran their gennys. But in walking around looking at other setups, the areas without stacks were really full of fumes. If there was a breeze, it wasn't too bad. But when it was still, imagine 50 or 60 gennys running (w/o stacks) within 150 ft or so of you. Pretty stout, to say the least. In the subsections where most had a stack, it was MUCH better. After experiencing that, I'll always ensure my stack works when parked in a crowd.

Dan,

That's a great looking setup you've got there. You should have seen some of the riggings I saw! Unbelievable!!

That's what you get for parking in the only spot in the field that had FULL HOOKUPS
