Default Brakes, bearings and bags...

Just finished a fairly complete 4 wheel rolling overhaul. Wheel bearings, shocks, brakes, hoses and airbags.

Replaced items were... 4 front airbags, stainless steel exhaust bellows, 4 front brake shoes. 1 set of front wheel bearings and seals. Adjusted shocks to #4 of 5 stiffness. Replaced both front brake hoses. Thoroughly clean and greased all pivot points.

Replaced both rear brake drums and 4 shoes. Replaced both rear shocks. replaced a few studs and lugnuts as well. Thoroughly cleaned and degreased all 4 wheel wells.

Being rear brake drums with the speedo notches are non existant I machined my own.

The ride and handling were significantly improved to say the least. Panhards were both in great shape too. No more bouncing down the road! Much thanks to the people at FLEETPRIDE for great pricing and having all parts in stock!!

Ryan is there any machining info you'd like to post on this site. I've seen others inquiring about these special drums before and if there was template like info or specifications maybe it would help others.

Ryan,
How did you find the tie rod ends, etc. Were they replaced?

Dear Guys,

Actually my 1983 FC35RB of which I am the second owner was bought new by First National Bank of Terra Haute, Indiana in the fall of 1983. It had about 290K miles on it when I bought it 2 years ago. I have put about 18K more miles on it. First National I believe had a total of 3 of these coaches and had a full mantainance shop just for them. They drove my particular coach several times every month for 23 years. They took extremely good care of it throughout its life hence its very good condition. The engine was replaced new at about 265K miles. My wife and I have done alot of "upgrades" and fix ups as you can see from some other posts. Having said that, The "hard" mechanics i.e. ball joints and tie rod ends, steering box etc. were tight. The front and rear brakes were at the end of their service life more or less so some components got replaced just cause it was apart. For some reason the front shocks were set on their softest setting? As for the brake drums, the rears were $157.00 each from FLEETPRIDE. I could machine the speedo notches for about $100.00 each plus the cost of the drum and freight if that is of interest to anyone? 60 notches on the right rear drum equally spaced about .150 deep.
