Thumbs up SP36 engine change,3208 to 8.3 cummins

Hi Woody,
Will "Texsmith" Smith here from San Antonio...I am probably more interested in the source/process/outcome/$'s of your Cummins/Allison swap, since the 3208 in the 90 SP with 80K that I recently bought seems to emit more black and blue smoke than it probably should (especially during warmup), and uses about 1 quart of oil per 500 miles (maybe this is normal?). I am going to try and get the engine oil analyzed over the next couple of weeks, as well as get an injector/timing and tuneup. The ZF seems to be working well at this point, although it seems a bit clunky. Dollars are always important so perhaps your 3208 may be the better economic solution for me. I will stay in touch pending the results, and would appreciate your thoughts and experiece.
Sincerely,
Will

Default Big Deal

I am challenged enough replacing old TV's and radio's with new stuff. I gotta tell you I have two comments. 1) Woody are you nuts??? 2) I'd love to be able to do it (I think) or at least watch it being done. Just like screwing in a light bulb, screw one out and screw in a new one. Right? Is this new ground or has it been done before? At the least this should be verw interwesting.

Default Engine Swap

Well, If I was keeping the Napper that would be an interesting prospect for it wouldn't it? Although I am not certain the Napper needs 300 hp (contrary to Paul Lazar's philosophy, never enough hp) Lets see if you turn the engine around from the back to the front then you would have reverse for a forward gear but it would be something backing up wouldn't it? Some one needs to make Woody a package deal while his taking the engine and trans out of his SP he really needs an FC to put it in (save shipping costs just drive it home) Hummm. I'd love to see this happening. I guess this comes down to where there is a will there is a way. I must admit I am impressed with just the prospect. I've heard there is a FC out there with a 6v92 up front so maybe in comparison this isn't so far fetched.

Default Engine swap

Randy and Woody
Could you two guys possibly take a few pictures during this operation?? Digital cameras can take soooo many pictures and it is easy to put them on this forum.
I wish I could be there and play photographer, while witnessing the operation.

Randy
It will be hard to wait, but it will be well worth it.
And Randy, I trust you will make sure that Woody will not end up with one of these attached coaches ???? Knowing Woody the fearless, anything is possible.
