Default Horton Fan air leak repair

I had an air leak coming from the area of my Horton Fan, which turned out to be the plastic air line itself where it goes into the fitting on the Horton Fan clutch. I had tied the air line up and away from the fan itself to prevent it from coming in contact with the fan blades and as a result four years of being at that angle had worn the end of the air line at the coupler and resulted in an air leak. Rerouting the air line and cutting off about two inches of the end of the air line and reinstalling it into the coupler has cured the air leak.

Unfortunately no, but rearranging the air line did the trick.

Default Horton Fan seals

In working behind the radiator, I repaired a major air leak at the Horton Fan. I have been chasing a mystery air leak that appeared to be getting worse for the last year.
Our Good Friend, John Wyatt was able to hear this leak through the front grill, the air cooler fins and the radiator fins. I still could not hear the leak, until I opened the front and swung the radiator.
The Horton on the 88 FC, requires 12 volts at a solenoid valve to stop air pressure from going to the fan clutch. So driving under normal conditions, 12 volts & no air pressure is present at the fan, with 12 volt ignition no leaks.
Over 185 Degrees the N/C temp switch opens the circuit, & releases air pressure to the fan, Without 12 volts or no ignition there is full air pressure at the fan clutch, This means the pressure leaks down quickly in an ignition Off parked situation.
And if the clutch seals are defective there can be a major leak.
There is a 1/8 inch hole in the front hub of the Horton, the Kit supplies a very small rubber plug for this hole. If the clutch is leaking, air will blow this plug out, and an air pressure leak will be present at the front hub.
The real culprit in this situation was a center cartridge seal, that was deformed and not able to seal.

It's Patty's camera, If she is not at home, "Ya don't touch Mama's camera with your greasy paws".
So, New Mark 87 FC from Maine is also behind the radiator this past week, and sent more pictures of the Horton fan clutch repair. There is a seal Kit available or a major repair kit that included bearings.

I bought a major repair kit today for my Horton S Advantage Fan.

Major Kit #994314 has the bearings.

Looks like this E-Bay vendor has 5 more still available for $95 plus shipping.

Check the Horton Catalogue above for the correct application.

The only Kit available locally and quick was a seal kit, So no bearing . I may regret this , but the Horton is really a robust unit, the bearing looked and feels good, unlike the troublesome tension pulley. I did change out the original water pump & that ugly pulley. also stayed with the steering pump and alternator.
