Default "Peterbird" (Peterbuilt/Wanderlodge ) Wild Idea

Randy, Woody, Mike, Jim Harvie and other wild men check this out!

Just came across it at the Escapees Discussion Forum. Guy is planning a
"Peterbird" (Peterbuilt/Wanderlodge). Can't wait to see this thing.

"Hi all. Guess it's about time for me to chime in on here. I'm a recently retired trucker. I have a classic Peterbilt in excellent condition, an older model Wanderlodge FC with a beautiful interior, but an obsolete drive train and an old KW sitting in the yard. In a nutshell, I'm going to stretch the frame of the Pete using the frame from the KW and single it, remove the face of the Wanderlodge and all the running gear, build a new front wall for the coach integrating the front wall of the Peterbilt's sleeper with the entrance to the drivers area and join the Wanderlodge body with the Peterbilt creating a "Peterbird", Kingsley Coach style conversion. I'm starting the project in May and am getting my thoughts together. I am pretty capable and have all the tools and a good sized fork lift, so may do most or all of it myself. I have questions about figuring the weight I'm going to have on my steers (tandem drives are not possible due to lack of space under the coach), some of the nits and nats about frame altering and I'm sure more question will pop up as I go along. Seems to be a lot of knowledge on here and I look forward to good exchanges of information. "

There is a member of this forum who started a thread on this last December.
I think it may be the same one.
He goes by VintageRay on here.
I don't know how to copy url's of other threadt but found it by doing a search on Kingsley.

someone whos a member over there needs to correct a few things,Prevost never did the interiors for Blue Bird.
WE do have a 6 cyl. cummins in Birds,the BMC's and the LX's both have cummins engines.
8.3's.M11's, etc..

I feel Vintage Rays pain. Prison Bus was identical drive/brake/rear gear deal. Bought a IH straight truck w/ fresh DT and 6 sp Spicer. Would run right up to 75mph, had air brakes and mechanically was sweet other than the #### Dayton wheels. Plan was to set the bus on top of the IH frame, rails had same centerline. Couldn't change to Budds w/o changing axles so IH got sold and PB got big gas engine and down the road.
Rays plan should be OK IF he does the metal work profesionally. Many home builts fall out of bed that way. Discription of his truck suggests a discriminating fellow, major job and serious dedication required. Michelins are rated to 75mph by the way, I used to ponder that as I cruised the toter home @ 80 accross MT in the past.

better yet is to cut up an SP and weld a truck on the front of it,2 engines would be great!!
